"Physics is the study and application of the fundamental laws of nature, including the laws of motion, gravity, electromagnetism, heat, and microscopic interactions. These laws govern the behavior of objects at all scales, from the smallest subatomic particles to the entire observable universe. In between, physicists study nuclear reactions, the interactions of atoms with light, properties of solids, chaotic dynamics of fluids, and the evolution of stars and galaxies, among many other applications."
If this doesn't tickle your fancy, there is always the quote from Rutherford: "In science, there is only physics; all the rest is stamp collecting."

The Crystallography is a misleading term. Diamonds and relatives are on the peripheries of the crystallographer field of interest. Probably the better name would be the "structural chemistry" or even the "structural biology". How the basic structures of living, rapidly changing world are connected with something as static as crystals? If one want to know 3-D structures of biological molecules - one need to crystalize them, then to put them into the X-ray beam and to interpret the obtained diffraction pattern.
For simplicity alternative techniques of structural biology, for example NMR, neutron and electron crystallography are also included here.

Science/Physics/Education is for EDUCATIONAL web sites of interest to educators, parents, students and professionals emphasizing the teaching or learning of various aspects of physics or physical science. The best sites will try to teach or instruct about physics or physical science, though clear, easy-to-follow explanations of topics are useful as well.
There are both a Science/Chemistry/Education and a Science/Biology/Education category here at ODP, and they may be more appropriate for some site submissions.
This category is not for software or selling of products.

Organizations are groups of people working together towards a common goal. This category is for organizations that do not themselves conduct scientific research but aim to spread information about such research. They organize meetings, publish journals and provide research grants for scientists in the field.
There are separate categories for many of the different branches of science.

Particle physics, often called High Energy Physics (HEP) deals with the smallest building blocks of everything around us - subatomic elementary particles.
It is not about particles you could see under a microscope (e.g. dust particles) and it is not about chemical molecules.
The World Wide Web was invented by particle physicists at CERN.
Sites listed in this category will have the name of the physicist as the title.
This category is a listing of personal webpages related to physics. This includes webpages of physicists, physics students, or people who have a strong interest in physics (and it shows on the website). Sites relating to a specific topic should be sent to the category for that topic.
Sites listed in this category will have the name of the physicist as the title.
Sites which seem to have a bit of physics content and a lot of non-physics stuff should go to
Society/People/Personal_Homepages.
Plasma, called also the fourth state of matter (the other three are solid, liquid, and gas), is mixture of ionized atoms (atoms stripped of some or all of their electrons) and surrounding electrons.
Please submit sites containing descriptions (general overview, table of contents, level, coverage and complete editorial reference) on plasma physics published books. Please do not submit only title and author. The published material should be of interest for the plasma physics professional community as well as for students and beginners in this matter.

Rheology is science of flow, of deformation of liquids and
solids, and of the in-between viscoelastic materials, such as asphalt, glass, dough or plastics (polymers).
The properties of the materials are described by the
constitutive equation (rheological equation of state)
which may an include other then mechanical quantities, such
as magnetic or electrical fields. Constitutive equation describes the memory of materials, effects of thermal and stress history and effects such as hysteresis.
Rheology is an interdisciplinary field which draws on
mathematics and differential geometry, chemistry, thermodynamics, polymer science and mechanics of continua.
It includes as special cases hydrodynamics and theory of
elasticity while studying more general cases of viscoelastic materials and of non-linear and complex fluids.
Derivation of the constitutive equation from the microscopic properties, the structure-property relationship of materials
or ''structural rheology'' generalises methods of statistical mechanics from study of N-particle systems to more complex ensembles, e.g. to three-dimensional networks of polymer chains to derive equations of rubber elasticity.
