Orienteering is the sport in which competitors race on foot, skis, bicycle, etc., over a course consisting of a number of checkpoints which must be found with maps or compasses.
Rogaining is the sport of long distance cross-country navigation in which teams of two to five members visit as many checkpoints as possible in twenty-four hours.
